Hola amigos! Para esta semana  el ejercicio que  escogí  presentarles ; es fundamental desde mi punto de vista para la preparación de los potros y es la introducción a la cincha. Este proceso lo realizamos con un mantillón de cuero con cincha; en Parelli lo conocemos como el Bareback-Pad. Lo usamos para acostumbrarlos a tener un poco de peso en su dorso y especialmente para  que acepten la sensación de la cincha. Esto nos evitará problemas en el futuro cuando decidamos pasar a la siguiente etapa y los comencemos a montar. Hello,   Today we will continue with the process in preparing the yearlings for tying and bathing calmly and safely. Teaching new things to a yearling is a lot of fun; bear in mind that they are constantly reading our body language and that our attitude and energy plays an important part in order that the experience be a positive one. Hola!!  Hoy; como les prometí la semana pasada les traigo la primera parte del proceso de cómo preparar los potros y potras para que estén atados en un lugar. Cuando esta situación no se prepara adecuadamente puede terminar en un accidente; pues los caballos jalan y pelean contra la presión que tienen en su cabeza; sentándose hacia atrás de forma violenta al sentirse acorralados y esa experiencia marcara su vida para siempre. Mi opinión personal es que, "abuso", no es solo tratar mal al caballo con castigo, dolor o intimidación. Hello! Thank you for being here this week! Last week I received a WhatsApp from a Costa Rican friend asking me for help with her filly that had injured her leg. As with any other injury it required medicating and care and in order to do this she wanted the filly to enter a chute which she had never done before.   The only thing my friend had clear was that she did not want to do it with force; she needed to do it as she did not know how the filly would react to the medicating and the application of the spray which had to be done.   In the end all went well, the filly entered the chute and allowed the medicating procedure to take place perfectly! The lesson this leaves us is to not wait until something happens to an animal in order to teach them to enter narrow spaces easily.   Today I will show you the procedure taken when preparing the entering and exiting of narrow areas. Hola! Gracias por acompañarme esta semana! La semana pasada recibí un WhatsApp de una amiga  costarricense que me pedía ayuda con su potra pues se había herido una pata. Como cualquier otra herida la necesitaba curar y para curarla ella quería que la potra entrara a una "manga" algo que la potra nunca antes había hecho. De lo único que mi amiga estaba clara era que no quería tener que hacerlo a la fuerza; lo necesitaba hacer pues no sabía como iba a reaccionar la potra a la aplicación del spray y los medicamentos que había que aplicarle.  Al final todo salió bien la potra entró y se dejo curar perfectamente! Getting Ready for Deworming Hi! Thank you for being here this week! How many times have we all tried to deworm our horses or give them oral medications which turned into a struggle and we end up resorting to force? Administering any type of liquid or paste medication like a dewormer can be a challenge if we do not prepare the horse previously. For us, or better yet, from our perspective it is something so “simple” and we assume that it should also be this way to the horse- he should accept this with no problems!
